First, what AMPECO is — so you know whether you should leave it at all
AMPECO is one of the most complete white-label CSMS platforms on the market: hardware-agnostic, OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1, OCPI roaming, smart charging, fleet modules, a large integration ecosystem and a serious engineering team behind it. If you run hundreds of charge points, have your own developers and are in a tender, it belongs on your shortlist and you probably don't need this article.
People look for an AMPECO alternative for three reasons, and they lead to different platforms:
- Price and minimums. AMPECO doesn't publish prices. Third-party comparisons describe a setup fee, a monthly platform fee and per-point fees; for a network of 10 or 20 chargers that structure is the whole problem.
- The sales cycle. Demo, proposal, implementation project. Fine at 500 points; a month of your life at 8.
- Region. AMPECO is global, but if you're a US site host you may want a vendor with a US call centre, and if you're in Spain you need Verifactu and TicketBAI, which AMPECO handles through integrations rather than natively.
Six alternatives, by the reason you're leaving
1. Monta — if you want self-service and an established driver app (Europe)
Danish, with public pricing: Starter costs €300 in platform fees for the first year plus 5% on paid charges, for up to 200 points; Advanced starts at €500/month plus €5 per AC socket and €8 per DC socket per month, plus 2%. You sign up online and connect chargers the same day. Trade-off: the 5% on every paid charge in Starter, and an ecosystem built around the Monta app rather than your brand. Monta in detail.
2. Virta — if roaming coverage matters more than owning the brand (Europe)
Finnish, a pioneer of European roaming, with commercial terms that can include revenue sharing. Lower upfront commitment than an enterprise licence. Trade-off: prices on request, and revenue sharing costs more precisely when your network does well.
3. EV Connect — if you're in North America and want one contract (US/Canada)
Californian, OCPP 2.0.1 certified, US call centre, roaming through Passport Hub. Software, hardware partners, installation and support under one agreement. Trade-off: no published prices, per-port fees that directories put around $99/month, and an implementation budget. Same sales cycle as AMPECO, closer to home. EV Connect alternatives.
4. ChargeLab — if you're buying chargers and software together (North America)
Canadian, OCPP-native, sold through charger manufacturers and turnkey installers who bundle it with hardware. Trade-off: you don't buy from ChargeLab directly below enterprise volumes, so the price and the support depend on the reseller.
5. Plugchoice — if you don't sell charging (Europe)
Dutch, and the core platform is free: monitoring, remote control, firmware, OCPP logs, API, unlimited chargers. Paid modules for smart charging. If your chargers are for employees, residents or guests at no charge, you may not need anything else. Trade-off: billing and invoicing are announced for the end of 2026 — as of this article you cannot take driver payments with it, so it isn't an alternative for a charging business yet.
6. askacharge.com — if you have 1 to ~100 chargers and want your own brand at a flat price
Ours. €20/month with unlimited chargers ($20 in the US), no per-point fee, no setup fee, no minimum term; driver payments 2% + €0.25 per charge with everything included. Sign up online, connect a charger by changing its OCPP URL, OCPP 1.6J/2.0.1, OCPI 2.2, a roaming hub between members at 1% per session, app-less QR payment, white label with your own domain, an API and MCP server for AI agents, and automatic Verifactu/TicketBAI in Spain. Trade-off, honestly: the operator dashboard is in Spanish today (driver-facing pages are in English), there is no native driver app (it's a web app), the roaming hub has no external partner connected yet, and if you need enterprise SLAs and an implementation team, AMPECO is the better product. How to actually migrate away from AMPECO
- Check your chargers can change server. Standard OCPP chargers let you edit the central system URL (via the manufacturer's app, a web interface, or an OCPP
ChangeConfigurationfrom the current platform). If AMPECO — or your hardware vendor — has locked it, ask them to unlock it before you cancel anything. - Export what you own: RFID tags, tariffs, customer list, transaction history. Do it while you still have access.
- Run both in parallel with one charger. Point a single charger at the new platform, do a full cycle — start, charge, pay, invoice — and only then move the rest.
- Move tags and tariffs first, then chargers. Drivers shouldn't notice the switch: their card still works, the price is the same.
- Cancel last. Keep the old subscription running one billing cycle past the last migrated charger.
If the manufacturer has gone out of business and the chargers are pointed at a dead server, the situation is different — see your charger manufacturer shut down: how to get back in control.
