What Virta is, and who should stay
Virta is a Finnish company that sells charging operators its management platform, Virta Hub — chargers, drivers, pricing, energy services, fleets and reporting in one place — together with managed roaming, payments, invoicing and VAT handling. It says it works with more than 35 countries and thousands of charger models, follows OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1, and offers both turnkey and modular set-ups, white label included. If you run a network across several countries, want roaming handled for you and prefer one vendor for the whole operation, that is exactly what Virta is for, and you should probably stay.
People search for a Virta alternative when one of these is the problem:
- You can't see the price. Virta doesn't publish prices for operators: you talk to sales and get a proposal.
- Your network is small. A sales-led platform built for multi-country operators can be more than a hotel, a car park or an installer with 10 chargers needs.
- You want your brand, not the platform's. White label exists, but you want to be sure the driver is your customer and the money lands in your account.
Five alternatives
1. AMPECO — if you want an enterprise white-label platform
Bulgarian, hardware-agnostic, OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1, OCPI, smart charging, fleet modules and a large integration ecosystem. Best if: you run hundreds of points, have developers and want deep customisation. Trade-off: no published prices and an implementation project, the same sales cycle as Virta. AMPECO alternatives.
2. Monta — if you want self-service and an established driver app
Danish, with public pricing: Starter costs €300 in platform fees for the first year plus 5% on paid charges; Advanced starts at €500/month plus per-socket fees plus 2%. You sign up online and connect chargers the same day. Trade-off: the percentage on every paid charge, and drivers who meet the Monta app rather than your brand. Monta in detail.
3. ELVO — if you have a handful of chargers and want a low per-station price
Published price of €3.99 per station per month. Best if: you have up to about eight stations, where it works out cheaper than a flat fee. Trade-off: the price grows with every station you add. ELVO vs askacharge.com.
4. Ocean — if you want an independent CSMS from an established European vendor
The platform that Etrel built and has since carved out as its own company, hardware-agnostic and OCPP compliant, with white-label web and mobile apps. Trade-off: no published prices, and a 2025 change of ownership worth asking about. Etrel and Ocean alternatives.
5. askacharge.com — if you run a small or mid-size network and want a flat price with your brand
Ours. €20/month with unlimited chargers ($20 in the US and Mexico), no per-point fee, no setup fee, no minimum term; driver payments 2% + €0.25 per charge with card processing (Stripe) already inside that figure. Sign up online, connect any OCPP 1.6J or 2.0.1 charger by changing its server URL, OCPI 2.2 roaming, a roaming hub between members at 1% per session, QR payment without an app or account, white label with your own domain, an API and an MCP server so an AI agent can run the network, and automatic Verifactu/TicketBAI invoicing in Spain. 30-day free trial.
The honest trade-offs: we are a small company and support is by email from Spain, with no call centre; there is no native driver app (it's a web app drivers can install); our roaming hub has no external partner connected yet; and a few secondary screens of the dashboard (help, webhooks) are still only in Spanish. If you need an enterprise SLA and an implementation team, one of the platforms above is the better fit. Full price list.

Before you switch: three checks
- Can your chargers change server? Standard OCPP chargers let you edit the central system URL (manufacturer's app, the charger's web page, or an OCPP
ChangeConfigurationfrom the current platform). If it is locked, get it unlocked in writing before you cancel anything. How to change the OCPP server URL, by brand. - Export what you own while you still have access: RFID cards, tariffs, customers and session history.
- Move one charger first. Do a full cycle on the new platform — start, charge, pay, invoice — and only then move the rest. Cancel the old subscription last.
