What ChargePoint is, and who should stay
ChargePoint sells chargers, cloud software plans and services from one vendor, and its network is the best known among North American drivers. Since 2024 its software can also manage certified third-party hardware. If you want the safest corporate choice, one contract and a driver brand everyone recognises, ChargePoint is built for that, and you should stay.
People search for a ChargePoint alternative when:
- The per-port cloud plans add up. Every port needs a paid plan, quoted with the hardware; there is no public price list.
- The stations stop working as a network if the plan lapses. They do not fall back to an open mode you can manage yourself.
- You want your brand and your own payments, not the ChargePoint app and account in front of your drivers.
The catch: ChargePoint hardware stays on ChargePoint
This is the part most comparisons leave out. ChargePoint stations — the Home Flex at home, the CT4000 and CP6000 in commercial sites — talk only to the ChargePoint cloud, and the owner cannot change the server address. ChargePoint "adopts OCPP" between networks and lets certified third-party chargers into its own cloud, but not the other way round. In detail: ChargePoint and OCPP: what you can and cannot do.
So the alternatives below apply to:
- new sites or new chargers you haven't bought yet — choose units with an OCPP server URL the owner can edit, and ask for it in writing;
- chargers from other brands you already own and manage on ChargePoint;
- replacing hardware when ChargePoint units reach the end of their plan or their life.
Five alternatives
1. EV Connect — if you want one US contract, without ChargePoint hardware
Californian, OCPP 2.0.1 certified, partner hardware, installation, a US call centre and roaming through Passport Hub. Trade-off: no published prices (directories estimate around $99 per port per month) and an implementation budget. EV Connect alternatives.
2. ChargeLab — if your charger reseller bundles it
Canadian, OCPP-native, the software behind several manufacturers' and installers' offers in North America. Trade-off: you don't buy from ChargeLab directly below large volumes, so price and support depend on the reseller.
3. AmpUp — if charging is an amenity at your property
US-based, self-service, with a plan for workplaces and multi-unit buildings that don't charge drivers and paid plans that add payments. Trade-off: priced per port, and the prices appear inside the sign-up flow.
4. Monta — if you want public pricing and a polished driver app
Danish, selling in Europe and the US, with prices published on its European site (Starter: €300 platform fee for the first year plus 5% on paid charges; Advanced from €500/month plus per-socket fees plus 2%). Trade-off: the percentage on every paid charge and the Monta brand in front of your drivers.
5. askacharge.com — if you want any OCPP charger, your brand and a flat price
Ours. €20/month with unlimited chargers ($20 in the US and Mexico), no per-point fee, no setup fee, no minimum term; driver payments 2% + €0.25 per charge with card processing (Stripe) already inside that figure. Sign up online, connect any OCPP 1.6J or 2.0.1 charger by changing its server URL, OCPI 2.2 roaming, a roaming hub between members at 1% per session, QR payment without an app or account, white label with your own domain, an API and an MCP server so an AI agent can run the network, and automatic Verifactu/TicketBAI invoicing in Spain. 30-day free trial.
The honest trade-offs: we are a small company and support is by email from Spain, with no call centre; there is no native driver app (it's a web app drivers can install); our roaming hub has no external partner connected yet; and a few secondary screens of the dashboard (help, webhooks) are still only in Spanish. If you need an enterprise SLA and an implementation team, one of the platforms above is the better fit. Full price list.

Before you switch: three checks
- Can your chargers change server? Standard OCPP chargers let you edit the central system URL (manufacturer's app, the charger's web page, or an OCPP
ChangeConfigurationfrom the current platform). If it is locked, get it unlocked in writing before you cancel anything. How to change the OCPP server URL, by brand. - Export what you own while you still have access: RFID cards, tariffs, customers and session history.
- Move one charger first. Do a full cycle on the new platform — start, charge, pay, invoice — and only then move the rest. Cancel the old subscription last.
