How to change the OCPP server URL on a Orbis charger

A Orbis charger that speaks standard OCPP can be connected to any platform by changing one setting. Here is where that setting lives on Viaris Uni, Viaris Combi+, Viaris City, exactly what to enter, and where people usually get stuck. Written by a platform (askacharge.com), but the procedure works for any.

Where the setting lives

In the charger's embedded web page: Wi-Fi ORB-EVVC3… (Uni) or ORB-EVVC4… (Combi+), factory password 12345678, then 192.168.4.1 in the browser → Settings → Communications → OCPP. The e-Viaris app has it in the same place (settings → OCPP).

Step by step

  1. Firmware 7.1.7.202 or later (updated from e-Viaris). First connect the charger to your Wi-Fi (Network → Connectivity).
  2. Open the web page (or e-Viaris) → Communications → OCPP.
  3. In URL enter the URL complete with the identity: wss://askacharge.com/askacharge/ocpp/your-brand/EVVC3nnnnnnnnnnnn. The URL in lower case and the serial number in upper case, as printed: there is no separate identity field here, it goes in the URL.
  4. In Port set 443 (a different one is preset). Press Overwrite / Save.
  5. Restart the charger. It can take up to 5 minutes to show as connected. Register exactly the same EVVC3… in the panel.

What to enter to connect it to askacharge.com

OCPP server URLwss://askacharge.com/askacharge/ocpp/your-brand/identity — the full URL, with the charger identity at the end: on Orbis there is no separate field for it. your-brand is your brand's identifier on askacharge.com (shown under Chargers → Add, with the full URL ready to copy).
Charge point identityThe same one you register in the panel when adding the charger. Case-sensitive. With Orbis, the serial number is the easiest choice.
PasswordBlank by default. If you enable the charger's OCPP credential in the panel (recommended for units exposed to the internet), the username is the identity and the password is the one the panel generates: OCPP Security Profile 2.
ProtocolOCPP 1.6J (JSON) or OCPP 2.0.1. Subprotocol ocpp1.6 / ocpp2.0.1.
Before connectingThe charger must be registered in the brand with that identity; otherwise the server rejects the connection. Register under Chargers → Add.

Where it usually fails

If your brand isn't here

The procedure is always the same; what changes is where the setting lives: look in the manufacturer's app, in the charger's web interface (by its IP) or in the installer software for a section called OCPP, Back office, Central System or Server. You need to be able to enter the URL and, nearly always, the identity. If the field is locked or missing, the manufacturer has tied the charger to its own platform: read what to do when the manufacturer locks or switches off its server.
