Pod Point Solo and OCPP: what you can and cannot do

Pod Point is the most installed home charger in the UK, and the question "can I take it off their cloud?" comes up in every forum. Two models, two different answers; here are both, plainly.

Where the setting lives (it does not)

Solo 3: nowhere. It talks to the Pod Point cloud over a proprietary protocol, with no web interface and no server field; users who have tried to "de-cloud" it (Speak EV) have found no way. Solo 3S (May 2024): Pod Point announced "a whole new OCPP platform" and the unit runs on EVerest (Pionix), with OCPP and ISO 15118 inside; but it is commissioned with the Pod Point installer app and neither the install guide nor support publish a setting for the owner to enter another URL. OCPP in the firmware, yes; a field for you, no.

What you can do today

  1. Check what you have: the model is on the label and in the app. Solo 3 → no OCPP, full stop. Solo 3S → keep reading.
  2. With a Solo 3S, ask Pod Point in writing whether the OCPP URL is configurable by the owner or the installer and by what procedure. If they answer, write to us and we publish it here.
  3. If what you want is smart tariff or solar charging at home, the Pod Point app and its integrations (Octopus, etc.) do it without OCPP.
  4. If you need to manage it with your platform —tariffs, cards, several units, invoicing— it cannot be done today with a Solo 3 and is not published for the 3S. For business, choose one with an editable OCPP URL from the list below.
  5. If Pod Point publishes the setting, this page changes the same day. It is dated in the header.

Where it usually fails

If your brand isn't here

The procedure is always the same; what changes is where the setting lives: look in the manufacturer's app, in the charger's web interface (by its IP) or in the installer software for a section called OCPP, Back office, Central System or Server. You need to be able to enter the URL and, nearly always, the identity. If the field is locked or missing, the manufacturer has tied the charger to its own platform: read what to do when the manufacturer locks or switches off its server.
