Where the setting lives
In the charger's own configuration web page, opened with a browser from a computer on the same network. http://<IP>/ for network and integrations, and http://<IP>:8080/html/setup.html for the OCPP settings (username admin, password 1234 from the factory). There is no app or cloud portal: everything is done locally.
Step by step
- Check the side label: model, code (V10623 for the URBAN T22) and serial number. If the front says Designed by Circontrol, it is the newer generation, with OCPP 1.6J and the same web page as the Circontrol eNext and Raption; URBAN units from 2017-2019 may need new firmware.
- Add the charger on askacharge.com with the serial number as its identity (all together, no spaces) and keep the password the panel shows you.
- Connect a laptop to the same network as the post. The URBAN ships with DHCP: its IP shows up in the router's device list. If not, use Circutor's IPSetup.exe with the MAC of the communications board.
- Open
http://<IP>/→ Network → Address Type: Local address if it reaches the internet through the site router, Embedded modem if it uses a SIM. Save. - Integrations tab → OCPP 1.6. If a licence notice appears, the unit does not have one. According to Circutor's technical service, the latest firmware versions include it: ask their after-sales service for the firmware.
- Open
http://<IP>:8080/html/setup.html(admin/1234). Under Charge Box → ID, the serial number. Under Central System → Host URL, your brand's URL (below), starting withws://and without the identity at the end. If the page has username and password fields, enter the identity and the panel password. - Press Save (top right) and reboot.
http://<IP>/services/cpi/log?app=ocpp1.6should show CB boot notification: success, and in the panel the charger shows as connected with both sockets.
What to enter to connect it to askacharge.com
| OCPP server URL | ws://askacharge.com/askacharge/ocpp/your-brand — with ws://, unencrypted: the URBAN only supports WS, not WSS. your-brand is your brand identifier on askacharge.com; the unit appends its identity. Before connecting it, tick Access → Allow unencrypted connection on its page in the panel, or the server rejects it. |
| Charge point identity | The same one you register in the panel when adding the charger. Case-sensitive. With Circutor, the serial number is the easiest choice. |
| Username and password | The URBAN has no username or password fields. askacharge.com requires them from every other charger; for this model we make a named exception, that specific charger tied to the public IP it connects from. Request it by writing to info@askacharge.com with the serial number. If your firmware does have username and password fields, enter the identity and the panel password and no exception is needed. |
| Protocol | OCPP 1.6J (JSON) or OCPP 2.0.1. Subprotocol ocpp1.6 / ocpp2.0.1. |
| Before connecting | The charger must be registered in the brand with that identity; otherwise the server rejects the connection. Register under Chargers → Add. |
Want to check it before signing up for anything?
Point your charger at our OCPP test server: free, no account, over wss:// or ws://. You will see what it sends live and we will tell you what would fail when you connect it for real.
Where it usually fails
- URBAN units coming from a previous public network usually have that network's SIM cancelled. Without internet they will not reach any platform: run a network cable to the router or fit your own SIM.
- If the laptop is on the guest Wi-Fi it will not see the post: that network isolates devices. Use the main network or a cable to the router.
- If the charger's web page has a password you do not know, only Circutor can reset it and there is no factory reset. Their technical service does it in a remote session: someone at the post with a laptop running WinSCP and AnyDesk, requested through a customer with a Circutor account, usually the electrical wholesaler. Do not guess passwords.
- If you enter
wss://it will never connect: the URBAN only supports WS, not WSS (confirmed by Circutor's technical service). And if you enterws://without ticking Allow unencrypted connection on the charger's page, askacharge.com rejects it; the panel shows it in red. - Unencrypted, anyone on the post's network or on its SIM operator's network can read what it sends and impersonate it. That is why the password-less exception is tied to the post's public IP. With a SIM that IP usually changes: if that is your case, tell us and we will find a way.
- If starting from the platform does nothing until someone touches the screen, set User confirmation required on remote start to OFF (OCPP Settings tab).
- Cards and key fobs from the previous network stop working, and its QR stickers send drivers to another app: cover or replace them the same day.
If your brand isn't here
The procedure is always the same; what changes is where the setting lives: look in the manufacturer's app, in the charger's web interface (by its IP) or in the installer software for a section called OCPP, Back office, Central System or Server. You need to be able to enter the URL and, nearly always, the identity. If the field is locked or missing, the manufacturer has tied the charger to its own platform: read what to do when the manufacturer locks or switches off its server.
