What happens
The charger opens the connection and sends its BootNotification (it introduces itself: brand, model, firmware), but the server answers Rejected or Pending. With Rejected the charger waits the interval it's given and tries again; with Pending it can't charge.
Check it in two minutes
The test server accepts any BootNotification and tells you whether it matches the official schema, what brand, model and firmware it introduces itself with and which identity it uses. If it's Accepted here and Rejected on your platform, the problem is the registration, not the charger. Open the OCPP test server →
The causes, most likely first
1. The charger isn't registered on the platform
The most common cause of Rejected: the server doesn't know that identity in that account.
How to fix it: Register the charger with exactly the identity it sends (case and dashes included).
2. The identity isn't what you think
Some chargers use the serial number, others the MAC, others whatever you type in a field. The identity is the last part of the URL they connect to.
How to fix it: Check the server log for the identity that actually arrives and use that one.
3. The platform keeps it on hold on purpose (Pending)
Pending lets the server configure the charger before accepting it: it changes settings and then asks for another BootNotification. If nobody accepts it, it stays there.
How to fix it: Look on the platform for the option to accept or activate it.
4. The message doesn't match the schema
A BootNotification without chargePointVendor or chargePointModel (1.6), or without chargingStation (2.0.1), is invalid and some servers reject it.
How to fix it: Update the firmware or ask the manufacturer to fix it.
What askacharge.com does
An unregistered charger isn't silently rejected: it stays “pending” in the panel with its live status, and accepting it means enabling its credential. While pending it doesn't authorise cards or record sessions.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between BootNotification Rejected and Pending?
Rejected means the server won't accept it: the charger tries again after the given interval. Pending means “not yet”: the server can configure it and accept it later.
Why does my charger send BootNotification over and over?
Because it gets Rejected and retries after the interval, or because it restarts (power cut, watchdog). If it's the first, check the registration on the platform.
