Where the setting lives
In the charger's web configuration tool, Configuration tab → Operating with OCPP Central System. It opens from a laptop connected to the charger's own Wi-Fi hotspot (http://192.168.5.1) or over an Ethernet cable (http://192.168.123.123), with username admin and the password printed on the documents that come with the unit. It does not open from your home Wi-Fi.
Step by step
- Update the firmware first. Integrators have tested
01.25.12.00and01.26.37.00, and advise against01.26.34.00. - Add the charger on askacharge.com with the serial number as its identity and keep the password the panel shows you.
- Connect the laptop to the charger's Wi-Fi: the network is named after the serial number (for example
JV99999999999WE) and its key is printed with the unit. A direct Ethernet cable also works. - Open
http://192.168.5.1(Wi-Fi) orhttp://192.168.123.123(Ethernet) and log in asadmin. - Configuration tab → tick Operating with OCPP Central System. In Supervision URL, your brand's URL (below), without the identity at the end. OCPP Version:
OCPP1.6J. Charge Box ID: the serial number. - If your firmware has them: Online Policy set to Authorization (RFID), so the platform decides who charges, and Cold Load Pickup set to Disable. Set Max Charging Current (A) to what your electrician says.
- Under Communication, leave the charger with internet (home Wi-Fi, Ethernet or 4G SIM). Save: the charger reboots and shows as connected in the panel.
What to enter to connect it to askacharge.com
| OCPP server URL | wss://askacharge.com/askacharge/ocpp/your-brand — your-brand is your brand's identifier on askacharge.com (shown under Chargers → Add, with the full URL ready to copy). The charger appends its own identity; if your unit only has a URL field and no identity field, enter the full URL: …/ocpp/your-brand/identity. |
| Charge point identity | The same one you register in the panel when adding the charger. Case-sensitive. With Delta, the serial number is the easiest choice. |
| Username and password | Required. The username is the charger identity and the password is the one the panel shows when you add the charger (shown once; if lost, generate a new one from the charger's page). Without it the server rejects the connection. This is OCPP Security Profile 2 (Basic Auth over wss://). If your model only supports unencrypted ws://, it can be allowed charger by charger on its page in the panel, and the password is still required. |
| Protocol | OCPP 1.6J (JSON) or OCPP 2.0.1. Subprotocol ocpp1.6 / ocpp2.0.1. |
| Before connecting | The charger must be registered in the brand with that identity; otherwise the server rejects the connection. Register under Chargers → Add. |
Want to check it before signing up for anything?
Point your charger at our OCPP test server: free, no account, over wss:// or ws://. You will see what it sends live and we will tell you what would fail when you connect it for real.
Where it usually fails
- The web tool does not open from your home Wi-Fi, even if the charger is connected to it: only from its own hotspot or over a cable.
- Once connected to an OCPP platform, the web tool is no longer reachable. To get back in you have to remove it from the platform or reboot it without internet.
- Do not set Online Policy to Plug and Charge: the charger starts by itself on plug-in and the platform cannot stop it.
- No published integrator guide shows OCPP username and password fields on the AC MAX. askacharge.com requires a password: if your firmware has no such fields, write to info@askacharge.com before going further and we will sort it out with you.
- If the platform reports errors with the energy readings, update to
01.26.37.00or later and do a factory reset: that is how evcc users solved it. - Delta fast chargers (SLIM DC) use a different web page and fields (Cs Address, chargeBoxIdentity, user
service); this guide is for the AC MAX.
If your brand isn't here
The procedure is always the same; what changes is where the setting lives: look in the manufacturer's app, in the charger's web interface (by its IP) or in the installer software for a section called OCPP, Back office, Central System or Server. You need to be able to enter the URL and, nearly always, the identity. If the field is locked or missing, the manufacturer has tied the charger to its own platform: read what to do when the manufacturer locks or switches off its server.
